Wiener Hornensemble

... wurde aus der damaligen Horngruppe des "United Philharmonie Orchestra Vienna" im Jahre 1995 gegründet, und hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Hornensembleliteratur aus allen Stilepochen einem breiten Publikum nahe zu bringen.

Der Name "Wiener Hornensemble" lässt offen, auch in größeren oder kleineren Besetzungen als dem traditionellen Hornquartett aufzutreten und soll ausdrücken, dass die Mitglieder ausschließlich am technisch anspruchsvollen aber klangschönen Wiener F-Horn spielen.

Das derzeitige musikalische Betätigungsfeld reicht von Hornensemblekonzerten über Gemeinschaftsproduktionen mit Chören und Orchestern, musikalischen Umrahmungen diverser Anlässe, bis hin zur Teilnahme an internationalen Hornsymposien.
Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Werbung für unser Instrument - das Wiener F-Horn - welches nur mehr bei den Wiener Philharmonikern verpflichtend gespielt wird und ein typisch österreichisches Musikkulturgut darstellt.

Im Jahr 2000 wurde das Wiener F-Horn unter anderem beim internationalen Hornsymposium in Peking und bei Euro Christmas in Hongkong durch das WHE präsentiert.

Mit dem "Großen Wiener Hornensemble", einer erweiterten Formation des WHE, bestehend aus bis zu 20 der besten Wiener Hornisten Österreichs, fanden Konzerte im Wiener Theresianum und auf Schloss Herberstein statt.

The Vienna Horn Ensemble

Alive and well!

With this recording, the Vienna Horn Ensemble (VHE) wants to set a monument to the current high level of brass playing in the Viennese classical scene.

The VHE was founded in 1995 by Thomas Jöbstl, Hans Wadauer, Martin Holpfer and Florian Janezic with the goal of exposing a broad public to the horn ensemble literature from all musical styles.

The name VHE allows the possibility of performing in groups larger or smaller than the traditional horn quartet, and also refers to the fact that the players play exclusively on the technically demanding Viennese horn, admired worldwide for its beautiful sound. An essential goal of ours has been - and will continue to be - to generate publicity for our special instrument, which is currently only required by the Vienna Philharmonic and the VHE, and represents a typically Austrian asset to musical culture!

The desire to expand led to the formation of the Grand Vienna Horn Ensemble (coordinated by Lars Michael Stransky), in which the best Vienna horn players in Austria take part. Thus the VHE can perform horn ensemble literature all the way from trios to compositions and arrangements for up to 16 players.

The ca. forty concerts we give every year attest to the resurgence of our beloved instrument!
